Hard work pays off!

Hi All! Hope you’re good!

Well! Yet again it’s been a few weeks since I last updated my blog, I know – naughty! Things have been pretty busy.

I performed on the main stage at Eight Ash Green Music Festival on 18th July with Jake Blackman on guitar, who was filling in for Adriano, which I was very grateful for.  It went really well and we got a great reaction!  The week after, I was at Jimmy’s Farm Sausage & Beer Festival in Ipswich. I played on the Sunday on the Acoustic Stage and it was torrential rain! I was a little worried nobody would stick around for my set as it was raining so hard and there was no cover for the audience. I actually did a longer set for them as unfortunately the act before was unable to perform. I was really pleased to see us attracting a crowd and people coming down to watch our set in the end! The place was pretty much packed out and people were dancing along in the rain, I was so thankful that they stuck around despite the cold and wet, they really were an awesome bunch.

Last week, I was very humbled to be one of the very few chosen out of hundreds of applicants, to attend the Ultimate Seminar’s Music Surgery as part of Cre8ing Vision with Kwame Kwaten.  It was a great networking opportunity and I met some great talent! It’s refreshing to hear about other people’s struggles within the industry, it’s a tough industry to be in and it’s just comforting to know that other artists and people working, who are on their game face the same struggles as I do and are in the same boat.  Meeting Kwame was great, I have so much respect for him, he has worked so hard and has achieved so much, it’s really inspiring to listen to his journey and he offered great advice and knowledge. All of which I’ve taken on board and will apply.

This week I have dropped my first ever music video!  I’m so pleased to be able to show everybody what I have been working on with Robert Watts Photography. The video is for my song ‘Brushing Off The Dust‘, which is my first song on my debut EP Love, Life & Lyricality.  Brushing Off The Dust has definitely been the most well received out of the 3 songs on my EP and is my newest song on there.  The reaction so far has been brilliant and I’m very grateful for all the shares and supportive comments.  It all just helps motivate me to keep going.  I really can’t wait to release more new music, this is only the beginning!  Robert Watts was great to work with, he really understood the song and came up with the idea of the story in the video to help reflect the points behind the song.  Please check out his page by clicking on the links below.

I also have had to create a new facebook page! Slightly annoying as the likes were growing on my Helen’s Acoustic Sessions, however, the title just isn’t relevant any more for my original music moving forwards.  Although, currently when I perform live it’s acoustically, my recorded music is not acoustic and I hope in time, I can attract the right musicians to join Adriano in gigging with me and performing my original music live with me.  I could change the title on the actual page but I couldn’t change the URL as it was over 200 likes and didn’t give me the option to request a change either! So I’ve had to start from scratch, which I’m not afraid to do (clearly lol) and I know in time the likes will grow on my new page, however, for the moment there will need to be a cross-over between the two pages while the profile grows.

Anyway, that’s it for now folks! I’m in the studio soon with Elliott Richardson to record ‘Guys Like You’, which will be very cool and I’m looking forward to getting back in to the studio soon with Simon Gogerly.

I am away on holiday this month, so I’ll be sure to let you in on my adventures and keep you all in the loop! Next showcase is 14th August at Mau Mau Bar in Notting Hill, London with Stereocandy. Unfortunately the event at Proud in Camden tomorrow has been cancelled.

Don’t forget to keep in touch and up-to-date in the meantime by checking out my social media (links all above and below).

Take care and have fun – Helen Connelly xx
